What Does a Full Car Detail Include? Nashville Detailing Guide
Wash, decontamination, protection, vacuum, extraction, trim and glass — here is what actually happens during a full interior and exterior detail.
What a full detail covers
A full car detail is a complete reset of both halves of the vehicle. Outside, that means a hand wash and foam bath, wheels and tires, and a layer of protection on the paint. Inside, it means a thorough vacuum, cleaned and protected plastics and trim, seats and console, vents, door panels and glass. Higher service levels add clay bar decontamination, a longer-lasting ceramic sealant, and carpet and seat shampoo with heated extraction.
"Detail" gets used loosely. Some places mean a wash and a vacuum. What it should mean is methodical work on every surface, in an order that doesn't undo itself — dirt comes off before protection goes on, and the interior gets emptied before anything is cleaned. Below is what actually happens on a full detail, in the order we do it.
The Exterior, Step by Step
1. Wheels, tires and wheel wells first
Wheels carry the heaviest contamination on the vehicle — brake dust, road film and grit. They get handled before the paint so nothing from the wheels ends up dragged across a clean panel later.
2. Snow foam bath and hand wash
A thick layer of foam loosens and lifts the surface dirt before anything touches the paint, then the vehicle is washed by hand. This is the single biggest difference between a detail and an automatic wash: the loose grit is removed before contact instead of being pushed around by shared brushes.

Foam first, contact second — that order protects the finish
3. Decontamination (Signature and Special)
Washing removes what is sitting on the paint. It does not remove what is bonded into it — the embedded fallout you feel as roughness when you run a hand across a panel. A clay bar pulls that out, which is why the paint feels glass-smooth afterward and why protection bonds properly instead of sitting on top of grit.
4. Protection
What goes on last is what determines how long the result holds. Our entry tier uses a spray wax for one to three months of protection. The Motorcity Signature and Special apply a ceramic sealant rated for six to twelve months. If you want protection measured in years rather than months, that is a ceramic coating — a different, dedicated service.
Detail vs. paint correction
A detail cleans and protects the paint you have. It does not remove swirl marks, haze or oxidation — those live inside the clear coat and only come out with machine polishing. That is paint correction, and it's priced separately.
The Interior, Step by Step
Interiors are where most of the labor goes, and where the difference between service levels is most obvious.

The vacuum stage is not just floors — it is seat rails, under the seats, the trunk or cargo area, and the seams where crumbs and sand collect. Mats come out and get treated separately rather than cleaned in place.
Hard surfaces come next: dash, console, door cards, cupholders, vents and switchgear, cleaned and then given UV protection so they don't fade or get that sticky, glossy look. Glass is done last, inside and out, because everything else throws dust.

Heated extraction pulls soil out instead of moving it around
Shampoo and heated extraction
On the Motorcity Special, carpets, mats and cloth seats are shampooed and then extracted with hot water. Extraction is the part that matters: it lifts the loosened soil and most of the moisture back out. Leather is cleaned and conditioned by hand rather than sprayed and wiped, and steam handles trim seams and vents that a cloth can't reach.
Not sure how deep to go?
Describe the interior in a sentence — pets, kids, spills, work vehicle — and we'll tell you which level actually fits.
What Adds Time (and Cost)
Two identical vehicles can take very different amounts of work. Pet hair woven into carpet and cloth, spilled drinks, set-in stains, sand and mulch in the footwells, or simply a long stretch without attention all add real time on site. Heavy pet hair is quoted as an add-on rather than buried in the base price, so a clean vehicle never subsidizes a heavily soiled one.
Add-ons are also priced individually rather than bundled: deodorizing, engine bay cleaning, trim restoration, leather treatment and truck bed cleaning among them. You can see the full list on the detailing packages page. Starting prices vary by vehicle size, service selected and vehicle condition.

Where the Detail Happens
All of this is done wherever your vehicle already is. Our units arrive with water and power onboard, so a driveway, an apartment lot or an office parking space all work, and nothing is needed from your building. For mobile detailing in Nashville and the surrounding Middle Tennessee area, that usually means the appointment costs you no driving time at all.
Water onboard
No spigot, hose or drain access required for the appointment.
Power onboard
Extraction, steam and polishing equipment all run off the unit.
Choosing Your Level
Start with the interior, since that is where the labor is. A tidy interior that just needs a clean reset points to the Motorcity Detail. Paint that feels rough or protection you want to last past a few washes points to the Signature. Carpets and seats that need shampoo and extraction — before selling, after a move, or after a hard year — point to the Special.
If only one half of the vehicle needs work, book the targeted service instead of a full package. A full interior detail or a premium wash & wax on its own is often the smarter spend.
One quick tip before we arrive
Clear out personal items, car seats and anything in the trunk you'd rather we not move. Every minute we don't spend relocating belongings is a minute spent on the vehicle.

Full Detail FAQs
What is included in a full car detail?
A full detail covers both halves of the vehicle. Outside: a hand wash and snow foam bath, wheels and tires, and a layer of protection — spray wax, or clay bar decontamination followed by a ceramic sealant on higher tiers. Inside: a full vacuum, cleaned plastics and trim with UV protection, seats, console, vents and door panels, and glass. Deeper tiers add carpet and seat shampoo with heated extraction, steam cleaning and leather conditioning.
How long does a full detail take?
It depends on the vehicle's size, the package and its condition. A maintenance-style detail on a well-kept sedan is a fraction of the time needed for a large SUV that needs shampoo and extraction throughout the interior. We give you a realistic window when the appointment is confirmed.
Is a full detail the same as paint correction?
No. A detail cleans, decontaminates and protects the paint. Paint correction is machine polishing that removes swirls, haze and light defects from the clear coat itself. It is a separate service and is priced separately.
Do you need my water or electricity?
No. Our mobile units carry water and power onboard, so nothing is required from your home, apartment building or office.
